Mountain Camp 2026: June 5 - 11, 2026
Mountain Camp — Artist Retreat
A retreat for artists seeking to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect—with themselves, others and the rhythms of rural life.
This is not a retreat focused on outcomes, but on presence and process. We will move at the pace of nature, embracing shared rituals, collective experiments, and the creative potential of play, rest, and getting things wrong.
Abruzzo is one of Italy’s wildest and most unspoiled regions.
Our two residencies are located on opposite sides of the Majella—Abruzzo’s Mother Mountain.
Far from the touristic image of Italy, this mountain offers space for focus, reflection, and embodied practice. Its slow rhythms invite a different kind of attention—one rooted in landscape, silence, and ancestral knowledge.
What’s included:
3 nights at Bocca di Valle
3 nights in Pacentro
3 dinners at Bocca di Valle
1 dinner at Pacentro
5 midday meals
All transports
Bocca di Valle
A seventies wooden house in the heart of Majella National Park, Italy. Nestled between white stone mountains and forests of fir, beech, and chestnut trees, it offers an oasis of peace and inspiration.
Hosted by Silvia Bianchi, co-founder of Libros Mutantes (Madrid Art Book Fair) and curator of La Terraza Magnética at La Casa Encendida, the residency welcomes artists whose work is rooted in the observation of nature.
Setteuarciate
An interdisciplinary artist residency in the medieval village of Pacentro, focused on ecological relationships. The studio is set in a 16th-century stone cantina surrounded by everyday village life.
Hosted by Mia Frances LaRocca, a beekeeper and artist who carries on the nickname “setteuarciate”—seven hugs. Each year, she invites seven artists to join her in the mountain.
In June, Mia will explore the history of mulberries and silk production in Pacentro. This research, along with her beekeeping practice, will inform studio work during Mountain Camp.
